Cosmic Funk

A Global Journey into Future Jazz from London

Featuring the most talented new school producers on the scene, Quango's Cosmic Funk compiles fresh and dance-floor tested tracks into a seamless program of over sixty minutes of future soul and broken beats.

The Funky Lowlives
The Funky Lowlives are comprised of writer/production duo JK Whitehouse and Gary Danks. In the space of a little over two years they have created a finely crafted blend of globally diverse rhythms, bruising beats and atmospheric moods by combining live instruments with the latest production techniques. The Lowlives have become an in demand remix team and have subsequently added their Lowlife magic to a diverse range of artists ranging from newly emerged acts such as Bah Samba, Boozoo Bajou, and Sidestepper to seasoned pro's like Masters at Work, Suba and Fela Kuti's longtime collaborator / Afro-beat drumming legend Tony Allen.

New Sector Movements
New Sector Movements is one of the many of projects overseen by I.G Culture - producer, remixer, beatmaker with an ear for a song, songwriter with an ear for a beat. Between his debut as one half of the hip-hop duo Dodge City Productions and his incarnations as New Sector Movements and Likwid Biskit, I.G has evolved a highly individual sound. A decade ago I.G. was into doing straight hip-hop, now he's taking the jazz-funk-house hybrids into uncharted territory. Says I.G., "New Sector Movements is rooted in soul and jazz-funk but you never stay there. I might have been schooled in hip-hop production but what I'm doing now is my sound. The sonics are still hip-hop. It's a question of taking the hip-hop thing and letting it become something else. It should be allowed to do that. If you do follow real hip-hop culture then it can be anything. You start in one place and end up in another."

Migs and Jelly
Migs and Jelly, is just one project of the multitalented DJ and producer Miguel Migs. Contrary to many of his club-o-centric DJ/producer peers, Miguel is unabashedly unconcerned with the potential dance floor appeal of his soulful, uplifting tracks. "It's music to listen to, not necessarily to rock the floor at its peak," explains the Santa Cruz, CA native, who grew up with a true love of reggae. In the past year alone, Miguel has quietly put out more than 15 quality cuts on seminal labels like Naked Music, Yoshitoshi and Transport all of which have made waves in the underground circuit and hit DJ hype charts of international media. As a producer, Miguel perceives a strong connection between his house production and reggae roots. Reflecting his live background, he writes his own lyrics and plays his own instruments. The organic groove of his sound hit home in London, a long way from the California coast.

Neon Phusion
Neon Phusion is comprised of Alex Phountzi, Kaidi Tatham and Orin Walters. They have fast become the super-group of the West London Sound, releasing five singles through Laws of Motion and producing under many individual monikers; Alex is a well regarded drum n' bass producer, Orin is responsible for Black n' Spanish and the Afronaughts, and Kaidi produces with I.G. as Likwid Bizkit. While rooted in club culture, Neon Phusion is very much a band, performing live as a dangerous nine piece ensemble. Featuring the most talented new school producers on the scene, Quango's Cosmic Funk compiles fresh and dance-floor tested tracks into a seamless program of over sixty minutes of future soul and broken beats.

Kaidi Tatham
Having played on over 100 releases in the past two years, Kaidi Tatham is the man behind almost every record coming out of the West London and the broken beat scene. The mutli-instrumentalist has been a key figure with Neon Phusion, Bugz In The Attic, IG Culture, Modaji, Likwid Biscuit, Misa Negra, 4 Hero, LTJ Bukem and the Herbaliser amongst others. A burgeoning musical genius, Kaidi played all the instruments on both "Armz Aarh Deh" and his forthcoming solo album on Laws Of Motion.
