Fila Brazillia
Formed in 1991, the duo of Steve Cobby and Dave McSherry have developed a unique blend of hip hop, cub, funk, and jazz that has gained huge popularity with DJs, beatheads, and lounge-types alike. Fila Brazillia was also instrumental in bring attention to the Pork label, which has been widely revered as one of the pioneering breakbeat/trip-hop labels. Most recently, they're mix album "Another Late Night" was released in 2001 on Kinetic Recordings.
I:Cube
Inspired by equal parts soul, detroit techno, chicago house and funk, Nicolas Chaix aka I:Cube has developed a reputation as one of France?s top electronic producers, next to the likes of Air and Daft Punk. His first single "Disco Cubism" was completed in 1996, while still in school. His latest effort, 2000's "Adore" album on Versatile, was received well by both journalists and DJ's. Recently, Chaix has been working in collaboration with Versatile label-head Gilb-R under their more experimental Chateau Flight guise.
Basement Jaxx
Simon Ratcliffe and Felix Burton make up Britain's Basement Jaxx crew, known for creating some of the biggest house tunes of the 90?s. After meeting on a boat party, the duo went on to form Atlantic Jaxx records in 1994, and gain the respect of house jocks around the world. In addition to completing many well known remixes, the Basement Jaxx scored a Top 20 hit with 1996?s "Fly Life".
Orbient
Orbient is music designed for space travel. Their debut albumfor Jubilee Records in 2001, is aptly entitled "Music for the ISS". After the crews of the American and Russion spacecraft's complained about the "intolerable sound quality of their small transistor radios", Orbient set off on a mission to develop music to play and perfomr live in the spacecraft. These guys are out there.
