QUANGO MUSIC GROUP AND AMERICAN RAG JOIN FORCES FOR NEW MUSIC SERIES
December 2004 marks the debut of a new collaboration between Los Angeles based lifestyle retailer American Rag Cie and Quango Music Group with a new series of music compilations.
Since 1984, American Rag Cie has reinvented lifestyle retailing with its fun and entertaining stores in Los Angeles and San Francisco. Now under one roof, one could discover emerging designers in apparel, shoes, sportswear, vintage clothing, home furnishing, books and most recently, music. This latest addition, spearheaded by Los Angeles tastemaker DJ Allen Voskanian was a huge success, delighting customers and introducing new music trends from around the world.
With over 40 releases in the last decade, the Los Angeles based label, Quango has been on the forefront of emerging electronic sounds from around the globe with a diverse roster of compilations and artist albums including Kruder & Dorfmeister, Zero 7, Koop and Talvin Singh.
Now the sound of American Rag can be heard outside of the store with this double disc compilation, jointly selected by Quango founder Bruno Guez and American Rag's music buyer, Allen Voskanian.
Disc 1 fuses a mix of future dub, electro pop, and hip hop soul. It begins with the lost sounds of Arthur Louis and Eric Clapton covering Bob Dylan's classic, "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and continues to the French hip-hop version of Dawn Penn's "Non Non Non" covered by Melaaz, before launching into Germany's hip popsters, Chicks on Speed. Disc 1 ends with the infectious grooves of Red Astaire's remix of Sia and Mark Rae's funky soul breaks.
Disc 2 picks up the pace with its blended mix of electronic pop and house. Starting things off with Rodney Hunter's and Only Child's uplifting electrosoul grooves, the CD showcases rare remixes and unreleased tracks from British pop sensation Moloko and French house producer Bob Sinclar. Bob Sinclar's unreleased reggae version of his pop hit, "Kiss My Eyes" takes him in a new direction while Francois K's mix of Moloko packs in almost ten minutes of electro deepness before the CD peaks with songs by Truby Trio and Themroc.
From vintage songs to modern classics, we've selected these rare and favorite gems to share with you.
