Sepiamusic - Trenches
The new album Trenches from Danish/American duo, Sepiamusic, marks their first official American debut. Sepiamusic views the theme of "trenches" as the spaces in between – small cracks and refuges from big emotions, but places that one must eventually leave to face battlefields of reality. The production, courtesy of Michael Adler Miltersen, blends guitars, piano and other analog sounds with the algorithms and ones and zeros of Sepiamusic's signature electronic sound. The end result being a backdrop of much depth and realism surrounding the airy yet confrontational voice of Erin Chapman.
Ryan Levine - Hard To Be In Love EP There’s definitely something supernatural about Ryan Levine, and his ability to fluidly move between styles. The singer-songwriter, who wrote the theme song for teen horror film Jennifer’s Body is also responsible for some seriously lovely pop music. His faintly rasping vocals intertwine with the silvery ones of Kristine Elizabeth on “Hard to Be in Love” for a charmingly duet complete with nimble piano that calls to mind the cheerfully restrained sounds of Badly Drawn Boy. “Don’t Walk Away” exposes Levine’s more tender side, and his crooning is suffused with genuine longing on this brooding indie folk gem. “Lie” continues in the calmer vein with warm acoustic guitars, a slight ache in Levine’s voice and and delicate sprinkling of piano. Though there is always a touch of angst in Levine’s voice and lyrics, his music contains an undercurrent of hope, showing that hard as it is to be in love, there’s nowhere else he would rather be.
